This year, we welcomed Ms. Owen to the Beth Tfiloh faculty! She has a background in science and was recruited to be a science teacher in Phoenix, Arizona. She fell in love with teaching and kept teaching in Phoenix until this past school year. Her daughter is doing her fellowship in Baltimore, so Owen retired and moved to Baltimore this summer to be with her daughter.
When she moved here, she saw the job listing, interviewed at BT, and fell in love with the school, its ideals, and the community. She teaches science classes, sharing her love for the subject with her students, preparing them for higher levels, and inspiring them to see science as part of their everyday lives.
Outside of the classroom, she is currently reading the book Educated by Tara Westover. She also likes to read science journals. In her free time, she likes to garden, binge-watch television shows, travel to new places, and spend time with her family. Family is very important to Ms. Owen, which is why she came to Baltimore.
Ms. Owen’s piece of advice for students is to “Try to enjoy time in high school and hear as many different perspectives as you can.”
