Pro football is big in Baltimore, and as Beth Tfiloh students, we like to show our pride for our teams. For example, the Baltimore Ravens are the most popular fan base at BT, as the school is based in Baltimore. Purple Friday is a great way to show spirit for our team, as we all wear our Ravens merch. Additionally, other BT fanbases include teams from Mid-Atlantic states, are the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers. Displaying pride for your favorite team is a great way to engage in your community. As writers, we want to bring the NFL spirit to Beth Tfiloh.
However, many students and faculty have different views and experiences regarding their favorite NFL team. As a Philadelphian, Mr. Trudell is an avid Eagles. Another math teacher, Mrs. Ralston, roots for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as she lived in Pittsburgh until she was 18 and has been a fan for more than 20 years. Adam Steinberg, a freshman, is a Kansas City Chiefs fan, explaining, “[I] will root for the Chiefs because [I am] a bandwagon.” Sports at BT are important, no matter if it is the Pros or BT sports, it is a great way to connect with people.
As devoted Ravens fans, we love watching them play and dominate the running game. Mr. Trudell was not just an Eagles fan, growing up in Philadelphia and he also liked the 76s, Flyers, and Phillies. His favorite player of all time is Eagles Hall of Fame Defensive Back Brian Dawkins. Mrs. Ralston, is a Steelers fan, and her classroom is known for her “Terrible Towel” on the wall, showing her Steelers pride though she is a huge fan, she has been “Not confident, ever since Roethlisberger left, we’ve been terrible, no confidence” but has some belief in the legendary Coach Tomlin, who has never had a season under 0.500. She is also a Penguin and Pirates fan and loved watching Bary Bonds play. Adam Stienberg, though born in Baltimore and an Orioles fan.
As a Ravens fan, last year was disappointing as we lost to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game. Mr. Trudell believes in the Eagles and predicts them to win just enough games to make the playoffs and for Sirianni to keep his job. Mrs. Ralston is not so confident but believes in them to go 9-8. Adam is very confident in his team and thinks that they will 3-peat and go 11-6 in the regular season. All three show passion for their teams, with Trudell shaping his son to be a fan and covering his desk with Philadelphia sports decor. Mrs. Ralston says it is “Fun when we [Ravens] lose, and Steelers win, trash talking I love to trash talk.”
