Orioles Jewish Heritage Night took place at Oriole park on Tuesday, May 26th. This was the Baltimore Orioles’ second annual Jewish Heritage Night in a game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Previously, the team has held religiously affiliated themed nights, including Christian Faith Night. But, Jewish Heritage Night at Oriole Park is here to stay, and Beth Tfiloh was super excited to take part in it.
The night included an exclusive Orioles Jersey with the Orioles logo written in Hebrew and a ticket to the game. Jerseys were picked up at Gate G, outside sections 84-86 and will be available from when the gates are open until 1 hour after the first pitch.
Along with Jewish Heritage Night, the park also implemented its new kosher food stand: Birdland Kosher. Wanting to hear more about this new kosher section and Jewish Heritage Night, I fed my curiosity and got information directly from the source
In an interview with Orioles Chief Marketing Officer, and Beth Tfiloh Parent Mark Fine, he shared the organization’s enthusiasm for supporting the Baltimore Jewish Community.
What is on the menu at Birdland kosher? “Kosher hotdogs, fries, potato knishes, pretzel bites, chicken tenders”
What inspired the creation of Birdland Kosher? “To be able to serve people in Baltimore and in Maryland and in Maryland so that they have a place to eat at Oriole Park”
“We will have a WW2 Veteran throw out the first pitch, people who purchased our packaged will receive a jersey spelled in Hebrew, and we’ll have fun and games throughout the evening to celebrate Jewish heritage” said Mr. Fine.
How does Jewish Heritage night compare to other heritage nights hosted at the park? “There’s a large population of Jewish people in Baltimore, so we expect a really big showing and we had a very successful first year last year”
His statement on Dean Kremer: “He’s a Jewish player of ours, his mom is Israeli, and he cares about his Jewish faith.”
Overall, Orioles Jewish heritage night represented more than just a baseball game, it was an opportunity for the Baltimore Jewish community to join together as a unit. From honoring Jewish culture to recognizing Jewish baseball players like Dean Kremer, the night promised to bring excitement, community, and fun in a memorable way. Everyone in Baltimore knows the Orioles, and with Jewish Heritage Night, Beth Tfiloh students had the opportunity to root on their favorite baseball team.
