Sunny D. 25’ has been going to Beth Tfiloh since kindergarten, a school that has inspired her pursuit of social justice, leadership, and advocacy. Specifically, her experience as co-Editor in Chief of KolBT newspaper has strengthened her leadership ability and guided her expression of passions and vision.
Her dedication to civil rights and women’s empowerment is evident in her extracurricular activities, where she serves as President of both the Women’s Defense and Fitness Club and the Women Empowerment Club. Sunny is also active in Mock Trial, Model UN, and KolBT, where she has learned the importance of collaboration and patience from mentors like Dr. Rubin and Mr. Jacobs.
Outside of school, Sunny is equally enthusiastic. She is a social justice teen fellow, an intern at Johns Hopkins as a political science research assistant, and a board member for Na’aleh, a program that teaches young adults leadership in the Jewish community. Additionally, she founded “Plant My Story,” an environmental organization that blended women’s rights advocacy with sustainability, and as a retired intern at Stand-With-Us, she worked to promote Zionism, combat antisemitism, and educate others about Israel.
Additionally, her most memorable moment at KolBT has been seeing her name published for the first time, a milestone that kindled her passion for writing. This summer, she’s taking her ambitions even further with internships on Capitol Hill and with the Italian government.
As she looks ahead to college, Sunny plans to continue her journey in journalism, eager to bring the lessons she’s learned at KolBT to a broader platform.
