We have all seen the signage at the Quarry Lake shopping center, reading “Chick N Dip” for months. For most BT students living in Baltimore, we all know that when a new kosher restaurant opens in town, we run to go check it out. After months of BT students waiting for this kosher Fleishig restaurant to open, Chick N Dip opened its doors on September 7th.
On this day, several BT seniors rushed to the scene to grab their first bite of chicken from this new kosher gem located in the heart of Pikesville, MD. Senior Jordan H 26’ reported long waiting times for food causing lots of anticipation among the seniors for their meals.
Jordan explains his and the senior boys’ time at Chick N Dip through saying “We went to Chick N Dip and got wings and fries. It took a little while, but it was pretty good”. According to Jordan, some popular dishes the senior boys ordered were chicken tenders, wings, and chicken sandwiches. He later described the wings that they ate as “pretty good for kosher food”.
The Pikesville kosher food scene appears to have quite a large variety of food options including Tov Pizza, Taam Thai, and David Chu’s, so I’d say that Chick N Dip rises to the expectations of these restaurants.
Kol BT reporter, Gefen M ‘27 and I were curious and eager to check out the scene at Chick N Dip, so we went to the restaurant on Sunday, September 14th. Instead of having a cashier, they had a kiosk where I electronically ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. Personally, I thought that this would be a good way to help alleviate the line traffic for ordering food.
Like Jordan had previously mentioned, the waiting times were a bit lengthy as it took about 15 minutes for my order to be prepared. The tables inside the restaurant were mostly full, so we ate our sandwiches outside. Gefen remarked that “While a little pricey, the chicken is incredibly rich and flavorful; not to mention the sense of community the restaurant has – the place was completely packed!”
Food, in Judaism, is a very important part of our culture. Many of our laws, traditions, and holidays include different aspects and symbolic meanings for foods. With this new addition to our Baltimore kosher food scene, this can allow for BT families and students to bond over freshly cooked meals and enjoy the pleasure of eating at a primarily kosher shopping center.
Overall, I, along with many other BT students can agree that Chick N Dip has the potential to become the newest kosher hotspot for Jewish families.
