The 11th grade students at Beth Tfiloh have just returned from an incredible class trip to Spain, which took place from January 12 to January 20. This eight-day adventure was everything they hoped for and more, offering a mix of cultural exploration and historical discovery.
This year’s trip was especially exciting because it was the first time in two years that the journey had taken place again. While the trip used to be limited to students in Spanish classes, it has recently been opened to the entire 11th grade, allowing more students to take part in the experience. As the trip approached, the excitement among the students was palpable, with many eager to visit Spain after years of learning about its language and culture in the classroom.
The group traveled through vibrant cities and charming small towns across southern Spain, giving them a taste of both bustling urban life and peaceful, picturesque landscapes. From exploring the historic streets of Malaga to taking in the energy of Madrid, and soaking in the medieval beauty of Toledo, the students were immersed in Spain’s diverse culture and fascinating history.
The trip wasn’t just about sightseeing; it was also about experiencing Spain’s deep historical roots. Students explored stunning architecture, visited museums, and toured iconic landmarks. Student Ilan G. 26’ expressed his excitement about the trip, saying “The trip was a great experience for me, it allowed me to grow closer to people I don’t usually interact with”. A particularly special moment for the rest of the students was spending Shabbat in Madrid, where they had the chance to connect with the city’s heritage.
Spanish teachers Senora Kaufman and Senora Botelho, who have both chaperoned this trip many times, made sure everything went smoothly. Senora Kaufman said “the trip is a culmination of the Spanish curriculum. The students get to experience Spanish culture and influence first-hand.” With the teachers’ experience and passion for the language and culture, they guided the group, helping them embrace local customs and traditions.
For many students, this trip was the culmination of years of studying Spanish, offering a unique opportunity to speak the language in real-life situations and gain a deeper understanding of the culture. But, the trip also gave the students a chance to bond with their classmates, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
