Interview with Garrett R. ’22
April 27, 2022
Garrett Bailey Rifkind ‘22 was born in Sinai hospital in Baltimore on March 17, 2003 and has two older sisters and two nephews. He attended Oheb Shalom preschool, Beth Tfiloh until first grade, Baltimore Hebrew Congregation to 4th grade, then Krieger Schechter, until starting Beth Tfiloh again in 9th grade. Garrett’s favorite teachers are Mr. Monroe, Dr. Rubin, and Mr. Jacobs and he enjoys studying History and English. His interest in history led to a 4 on the APUSH exam without taking the class, an impressive feat.
Garrett enjoys gliding around the halls in his Heelys and cooking traditional Cambodian cuisine. Some of his hobbies include cartography, constructing languages, linguistics, theater, and making clothes. Performing for the theater, Garrett has acted in Anne Frank, a Series of One Acts, Guys and Dolls, Peter and the Starcatcher, and the Little Mermaid. Garrett has been a writer for the newspaper since 10th grade and an editor since 2021. He has traveled to Siberia to visit family; Italy; Israel; and Britain; and also drove, at least most of the way, to New England on a family trip. With his interest in traveling, Garrett hopes to study international diplomacy in college and aspires to be a diplomat.
When Garrett leaves BT, he is going to miss (annoying) the faculty the most. Dr. Rubin says that Garrett is his favorite student with the name Garrett, and indeed, he has had more students with that name, and he will miss him a ton.
Garrett would like to thank Beth Tfiloh for being so kind and uplifting and helping him reach his potential as a Jewish teen in this world. Garett will be deeply missed by the entire Beth Tfiloh community, especially Zach Balsam ‘24 and Elie Schwartz ‘24.
